- Most people outside of Korea have never heard of fan death, it seems to exist only in Korea. I wonder why? They have fans and windows in every country. Strange...

- If you are talking about an electric fan then it is very common to say it died if it stopped working. When anything electric stops working we say it died. Batteries are dead when they have no energy. The difference is we don't call it a death. The word death is used for living things.
